Durnehviir was exhausted. Between nursing, cleaning and greeting over her newborns, the new mother barely had time to sleep. She did her best to nap while they did, but her rest was fitful.

She hadn't expected to be so on edge; her drive to ensure the survival of her offspring was strong, and every sound or movement roused her. Yowls of offense drew her attention toward the pups and with an anxious sweep of her tongue over a lip, Durnehviir hoisted herself onto an elbow to investigate. Two of the boys appeared to cry out in outrage at one another and, as they squabbled, the mottled boy was unfortunate enough to find himself writhing on his back - bested by his larger brother.

The russet Alphess huffed a breath and moved in to intervene, making to seperate her children by correcting her lookalike to an upright position and then poking Talos away with her nose. In doing so, the puppy was accidentally rolled over to reveal a rather unexpected sight.

Durnehviir blinked, somewhat dumbly. This cub was not like his brothers.

A million worries flooded her thoughts: what's wrong with him? Is he deformed? Will he live a normal life, without the right parts? She held her breath, on the verge of hysteria, until she leaned in to have a closer look.

He was a she.

"@Constantine," she exhaled without daring to look away, unsure if her mate had stirred with the commotion of their children. "Talos is a girl!"
everything mortal fades away in time, but the spirit remains
