He'd taken her aback--that was good. Her shield had fallen, and the chances of this conversation being productive were suddenly much better. He nodded at her question, the smile still on his face. It fell away when he saw the tears well up in her eyes, and he shook his head infinitesimally, not at all prepared to deal with this.
Fuck, don't cry. He couldn't handle any tears but his brother's; he felt underqualified to deal with anyone else's emotions. Zamael blinked back at her, not making any move to give her physical comfort, but trying to soften his gaze.
"Only he can make that choice, L-- Eris," Zamael explained gently. "I don't know what the nature of your relationship is with him. How close you are. What he thinks, truly. But I'm not taking him away from you. I wouldn't do that."
No, I'm taking you both away instead. Together. Isn't that what you want? To run away?
