All Welcome
The tide was coming in, and so Dash was furiously digging one of his signature fish traps. Sand flew sky high as he worked to deepen the trench, spurred on by the trickles of water that breeched the edge of the ditch as the latest wave rushed in.

When the perfect wave hit, he would only have a pawful of seconds to snatch the fish out of the trap before the incoming tide destroyed the trench. It was precise work, but Dash was very practiced.

the man had a song on his lips, and it went something like this.

except that his voice was heavy with accent, rumbling in his chest. he walked along the coastline, coming from the northeast, and his head was low, the song descending into a warm murmur now and again.

"in th' paens, in th' paens..."

Dash was putting the finishing touches on his trap when the tide came rushing over the edge, pouring into the trench. The man's trained eye picked out the thrashing movements of the trapped fish almost before Dash's brain could even catch up. He darted left and right, grabbing up fish and tossing them out of the trap, up toward the dunes. They would lay there flopping in the powdery sand until Dash was able to emerge from the trench to gather them up.

From outside of the trap, it would look like fish were leaping out of the surf and onto the dunes.

"...vhere the sean, never shines... m-hmm, m-hmm, m-hmm, m-hmm."

he had no exact destination in mind. with legs as long as his, it would be a shame to hurry anywhere. he'd find his way to meal, bed and company soon enough. after all, his was all the time in the world.

it was a grey day, and so a flash of something in his periphery caught the singer's attention. his head turnes to face the ocean, the great water's breath tussling his woolen hair.

fish were leaping out the water and presenting themselves upon the dunes.

the komondor's tail wagged once. see? you go hungry long enough, and mother nature takes pity upon you.

the dog walked over to the still-flailing seafood. he nudged a fish with his nose, sniffed it, then without further ado took it into his jaws with a crunch.

The trap was only good for one or two waves at best, and the second wave was never as productive as the first. As the second waves rushed in, another two fish were captured and flung up onto the dunes. Then the walls of the trench collapsed inward, and Dash was left standing in mushy, watery sand up to his chest.

He struggled his way out of the trench, which was falling apart almost faster than he could climb. Eventually he emerged, winded and grinning, to inspect the catch he had reaped.

His eyes landed on the newcomer, who loitering upon the dune and munching on a fish. Dash's fish.

"Uh..." He didn't know what to say. He'd seen quite a bit in his travels, but this was one weird-looking dude.

"So.. you're hungry then, I take it?" Did he even speak common?

what a bounty the sea'd presented him with! the komondor delighted in the way blood and salt mixed with saliva, and the snapping of tiny bones between his teeth, aware but ignoring the upcoming thirst the sea won't be able to quench.

the voice behind him had the dog in shock and confusion. he turned his head, hinds still facing the water, and looked at the stranger wide-eyed.

he continued chewing, very, very slowly.

after the long moment it took for the salt-kissed, pepper-marked mystery to speak, slavuj swallowed.
immediately, his mouth stretched into an open smile, and he gave a single bark of greeting.

"ah, gud daey mist'r merman!" the off-white male spun around, tassels flowing as if to take flight. "didj yeou call dese fish t' th' shore to feed a wand'ring songster? if sou, yeau've mai grachitude." he gave the merciful seawolf his best grin.
