Kato was born into a small family wolves. It was just his mother, Kiska, father, Chata and older siblings, Kanien, and Onan. For many months after Kato was born everything was relatively peaceful.
It wasn't until he was half a year old that trouble really took root in his little family pack. For a few months previously the brother, Onan, had been acting in an odd manner. He had been spending an abnormal amount of time off on his own in the forest, and would often be gone for days, sometimes even weeks, at a time. The rest of the pack was beginning to worry, and when they asked Onan questions he would never give them a straight answer.
One winter evening, Kanien followed his littermate. The next morning the pack found Kanien's frozen body in the snow, surrounded by Onan's pawprints.
Kato and his parents tracked down Onan to find that he had allied himself with a brutal pack. In the process of being admitted into their ranks, he had been ordered to kill a family member to prove his complete loyalty to his new pack. Thus, Onan had murdered his own brother. And when the rest of his family showed up at rogue pack's camp, he was ordered to kill them as well. Kiska and Chata fought off the brutal young wolf and his new pack mates as long as they could, giving Kota time to escape. Kota, not knowing what else to do, ran until his legs could no longer carry him. When he finally collapsed it was far from the danger of his brother.
Since then the young wolf has been living alone, teaching himself how to survive. When he does encounter others of his kind, he remains very distant and proud, immediately establishing dominance and driving them off. And when that doesn't work, he moves on, just as he always has.
