born in stavanger bay near the end of the era of stormrift, his natal pack. shortly after his birth, his mother departed the pack with only garland in tow, her precious sickly lastborn. the wilds proved an unforgiving place for a single mother and her sickling newborn, and garland was soon stolen away by a madwoman, a mother driven mad by the loss of her entire litter. she drove herself to exhausted starvation in her single-minded obsession with nurturing her stolen child, and perished only two months later. garland remembers nothing of his birth parents, and little of the woman who'd stolen him, though he knows instinctively that she was not his true mother.

what he does remember is the wonderful life that found him in the wake of this strange series of tragedies. the wayward mayfair was found and subsequently raised by a kindly pair of elderly foxes, a worldly couple whose travels had taken them across seas and far away from their homeland. he was raised on their tales of their adventures and the world at large, taught to speak greek as his first language; common came later, an afterthought when the pair began to realize their own mortality. unfortunately, this realization materialized far sooner than any of them would have liked. at 10 months old, garland found himself alone and adrift once more, though this time he was nearly equipped to survive on his own.

still, he struggled, and after a couple months of solitude he decided he'd had enough. he allowed himself to be recruited by a handsome pack wolf who pursued him quite relentlessly, his youth blinding him to the myriad red flags presented by the charismatic stranger. this was the first of many mistakes that ultimately led him down a miserable path.

nearly a year later, garland finally escaped the abuse and isolation imposed on him by what had once only been a good-looking stranger. now, he travels, trying to piece himself back together and stubbornly refusing to submit himself to pack life ever again.
