All he was left with was the pack he was born into and the siblings that barely knew of his existence. Perhaps it was time to seek allies a little higher up in their hierarchy. He had observed and listened in silence for a long time now, eventually figuring out who was the top dog around here. Thus, when he saw Serem departing for a task, he recognized the opportunity and followed suit.
