AW, tracking #7 (target: individual mule deer, imaq will be spotted)
The herdstalker managed to trail after the scent of one of the mule deer, a fawn that had been separated in the chaos when she accidentally startled the herd at Sleeping Dragon. It was only a matter of time before the elements got to it, if another predator hadn't, or at least Imaq presumed. The deer of these southern lands were not like the caribou of her natal Nunaat. She could not be certain that the fawn would not find its way back to its mother, nor that the doe would prove incapable of locating her young on her own accord. Regardless, it was best to trail the young grazer and dispatch it quickly. It would prove for a good opportunity, meat to add to their already well-stocked caches and if she acted quick, she'd beat any other predators nearby to the draw.
Selkie tracked the fawn all the way back to the River, where the youngling seemed to have found itself in trouble by what she found. A smear of unsteady, tiny hoofprints, cracked ice smattered with red on the banks that suggested the fawn had almost fallen in and had cut itself on the ice in its struggle to clamber out of the Qeya.
Blackened droplets of dried ruby splatted a visible trail across the ground for the shaman to follow once she turned away from the River. Eyes locked on the breadcrumb path of blood, the merle hurried north -- keen on finding the fawn before anyone else might.
"...and all around was the bitter arctic cold and the immense silence of the North..."
