Nothing was safe. Not the lakes, not the hotsprings, not even neverwinter. Though Mal had told him he would keep him safe, the boy was doubtful. Everyone promised him this, but no one was able to do it. And now look at him; the once bright eyes, enthusiastic boy was reduced to a fearful husk of his old self. He could not rely on anyone to keep him safe anymore.
So he left one morning. He did not warn Mal, or Kratos, or Zephyr. He didn't want to upset anyone with goodbyes.
Through many forests he went, across plains, along rivers. All of this led him to the shore, the sea, the edge of the world. Phillip stared at the horizon in awe.
And then something was bashed against his skull. It hit him again and again. Something sharp sunk into his back, his legs, his neck. Phillip fell into a pool of his own blood. He watched four sets of legs circle around him.
A final blow. Fade to black.

W-who are you?he wheezed between short breaths.
