@Heloise
He made his way back to the forest of Keen's attack.
The air held its breath as he passed their threshold. He was hunting, seeing if the man who'd attacked her lived here. He would kill him, but it always proved useful to gather information on those you hunted. The way they acted; fought. Weakest points. He would kill the silvered beast, even if it cost him his life.
He moved swiftly to the place still marred with blood, the snow not yet covered over again. There was a storm coming, perhaps he'd have to stay in the trees shelter until it passed. He put his nose to the ground, instantly on the hunt. The stale scent of Keen's blood hung in the ice. He lifted his head in the direction of the fleeing man, following the shallow pawprints that had imprinted themselves in the snow. He followed them, hunted the man.
Today wasn't a day for killing, but for tracking.
Perhaps learning, too.

she was ignorant. this land was not known to her, and nor where the conflicts it posed. she continued to be blissfully unaware - though perhaps blissful was a strong word - as she stepped. the scent of blood tore through her senses, momentarily blinding her. and there, upon the ground, was a scattered remnant of it. some form of an issue had arisen here. her pale gaze would narrow briefly before she raised it. and there, among the small trail that leads away was a man following whatever had left such a thing.
he was unremarkable, a stranger to her. yet he seemed to be driven to track. curious. was the man's friend a victim? was this one part of a pack that lived close by? had the trail leading away been an intruder? there were so many potential subjects. she would start with a greeting. Heloise would approach, making sure he heard her coming so that the man did not become startled. with blood in the air, there was no telling what could happen.
"hail" the ivory woman would speak, pausing behind the other "was there an assault here?" for it was wolf blood and not the blood of prey.

The sound footsteps made him slow, the hair on his back prickled. The voice made him turn quickly, ready for whatever he may be faced with. It wasn't threatening, they registered with the same curiosity that the black and white female held. He wished he'd asked for her name.
"Yes. My ward was attacked. I seek revenge on her behalf." He studied the pale female, taking in her details should he happen across her again. "Perhaps you know of a silvered brute hanging around here?" He never did get a good enough look on Aries, but it was enough and from what Keen described, he would do well enough.
He'd start here, with this female, he supposed.

there was never a shortage of victims in the world. this place was no different. Heloise would exhale, half lids regarding the man at his news. his charge was assaulted and he was looking for the culprit. a noble goal indeed. however, he would be wasting his time with her. she knew not only a few wolves thus far. none of them a silver brute. "nay, I know not of them" the woman would respond honestly. how was she to know a being she had not met except perhaps for rumors?
and rumors were something she did not really listen to. was it common beings were attacked in these wilds? she had come across another that had been pushed from a cliff by another. should she worry, then, or be half-way concerned for her safety? no, she would take it with stride. "I am a foreigner, recently inducted to these wilds" Heloise added. considering his charge's condition, she suspected her brief reply would not be enough for him.
though her need to assist was a strong one. she would take a pace forward. that was all. "mayhap I can assist you, sir. I know how to track."

He took in the information she provided him with. He half wondered where about she did hail from but decided there was a time and place for conversation of such. Here, there was the possibility of a sadistic monster lurking, watching them. He doubted they were being watched but he wouldn't dull his steel edge.
He was about to ask if she'd perhaps help him -- however she could. He needed it no doubt.
His event with the man...he didn't realise it then but he might not have had an easy time in a fight against him. If it came to that. He swallowed, pushing the man from his mind.
"Of course, unless you'd rather spar. I believe I'll need it if I am to stand a chance against this monster."
Whatever depths of the Netherworld the silvered brute hailed from, Derg had no doubt that he'd keep his skills sharper than his own.

an option was presented to her. Heloise felt her nails dig against the soft earth at the prospect of a sparring match. ever one to be physically able, she was keen to do such a thing. the woman saw the sense in the man's idea. if he was to find the beast that assaulted his charge, he would have to remain strong of will and body. "aye" she would breathe, dipping her head with confirmation "we shall spar."
it had been too long since she had done such a thing. travel made for little room aside from building endurance. she would turn from the man and step lightly a few paces away. allowing him the running start his bulk required. shifting back to look at him dead-on, Heloise would raise her head. "then come at me, sir" and also allowing him the first taste of it. t'was his suggestion, after all.

He lifted his head, the ghostly grin appearing at her acceptance of her challenge.
He'd just have to remember this was a spar and to stay alert in case of the reappearance of the silvered one.
He launched himself forward, a nimble leap to one side then pivoted on his hind legs to spring the other way so he could turn his head and snap jaws at his opponent.
Except, Derg really was out of practice.
His pivot failed, sending him off balance rather than sailing past the white woman, his teeth completely missing her. He'd kick himself if he could. But he needed balance.
Derg scrambled, kicking with his hind legs to press himself forward and up rather than down.
Down was bad.
He succeeded in his re-balancing but at a cost, he was wide open for her to knock him down; or perhaps she'd take pity on his sorry ass and be gentle with the first hit.

this was a friendly spar, and therefore she was not going to unleash the proverbial beast upon the man. hardened by experience, Heloise would calm her mind as he rushed at her. her pale gaze briefly closed, hearing the thumps upon the earth as he neared. the pivot did not work; carrying him forward and missing her completely. she felt her body react instinctively, going for the scruff of his neck.
options were laid bare as he tried to establish his balance. but she would not do any of them. the scruff... it was thickest and therefore would hurt the least. her jaws would flash, attempting to seal themselves on the edge and therefore most of her grip was fur. she was compassionate; his blunder meant nothing to her. she was not going to exploit it. if she dug deeper, it was not the woman's intention. she aimed for his thick ruff and that was all.

Derg felt teeth in his scruff, hard enough to keep a hold, hard enough to tell him she meant business.
He swung his body to her, aiming to pull her off balance to see if he could get into a better position to tackle her. His own ivories swung for her shoulder in the process, raking her skin.
He could taste blood, a small amount.
The man felt like he was stepping into the rhythm now, his heart sung the war song it'd learnt since youth. His legs carried it through the steps he'd learnt. Hus body contorted to his will and he felt alive again. This was what he needed. Especially after the night.

his own jaws snapped at her shoulder, his body slamming into her own. momentarily winded, the pain from his attack was enough to shake her back to reality. she bore fresh teeth cut but it was not deep enough for concern. blood dripped down and stained her ivory coat some crimson. she could wash it off later. he was close enough by his own invitation and now she would make use of it.
Heloise felt her neck arch like a serpent moments before striking, and that she did. aiming for the joint of his left front leg, she snapped at the limb in an attempt to hinder his moments. larger than she, the man was, and whatever speed he could muster for his bulk she would aim to separate. her speed was quicker due to her lithe form but this was close combat and if he backed her into a corner she could not do much but defend herself against attacking efforts.

He felt teeth on his leg, the force she struck with put him off kilter again, making him lose his grasp and pull away. He swung his body around again, an arctic wind gathering itself to throw its whole body into the attack.
This one was different from his first attack; that was lithe, coy. This was a swing of a battering ram.
He moved with a calculated lunge, teeth plummeting to lock onto her back end, seeking to catch her loin or flank. He knew the move held risks, to put his power into one direction. If she dodged he'd have to reel back on her and attack again -- she had the speed for it. Yet, if he succeeded, she'd have to twist herself around. Then, he could push her down. But that wouldn't make much for sparring now, would it?

he would pull away. though not for long. she was not so foolish to have thought it was the end of their sparring lesson. preparing herself for his assault, the man would lunge at her backend. she would raise a leg to block him from penetrating her loin, his teeth grasping the haunch instead. yet she did not twist herself to attack. with the leg still raised, she shot it out in an attempt to kick him upside the head.
there was little force behind it after the smarting pain in her muscle, though the intent was still there; to make him back off. if it collided with him, then she would move her body out of his reach in preparation for an attack. the mind was calm. tactical. Heloise would not give into primitive ways simply due to a little bloodshed. she was better than that. she had trained herself for that.

Fourth roll: 11
After his fight with Aries, he supposed he needed to regain control; retrain himself.
This was what was making this lesson a struggle for him. The urge to lay fully into her had to be resisted. He needed to practice for when he met with the man again.
He doubted he'd be able to get close to him again for the close quarters without surprise. He wouldn't get that unless he caught him off guard -- whenever that could be.
Her leg came up, hitting him in the chest. His instinct was to snap his head up and reel back, his throat tightening in the place of impact. His breaths came shorter and he pressed himself closer, moving to push her around and make her drop her rear. If so, he could gasp for air. It burned a bit. But he held on, starting to push his weight into her.

the man seemed to be slowing down. he was now relying on brute force over tactics, and that is when people made mistakes. he seemed desperate, gasping for air when he could and throwing his full weight into her. Heloise felt her fur raise defensively as he neared again. he was trying to make her drop her rear. she'd snap out, tasting the air, a warning in essence. she did not make contact with him. when he collided with her, she turned to face the front. her shoulder stung, bruised, as when she twisted his weight smacked into it.
it hurt but at least she could breathe. her shoulder muscles would be sore tomorrow and develop a nasty bruise. though he was succeeding in throwing her off balance. she would attempt to stomp her front legs into the earth to regain it, hoping he did not take advantage of her momentarily lapse. gripping the earth below, Heloise would use her own muscle. she'd charge forward, hoping the brazen display would put him off his guard or at least surprise him. her head tucked to protect her throat as she headbutts him. aiming for his neck or chest to wind him further.

He lay his ears back with her snap, taking it as a moment to recollect himself when he didn't feel the sting of teeth. He needed to slow it down. Pull back. He dropped his head slightly just as she reeled around to strike him. He expected the bite of ivories on his neck but all there was was the same crushing sensation. It made him fall back onto his haunches, inhale sharply against the tightness.
He was breathless but it gave him time to think.
Think.
Derg shifted up, rising to meet her. He knew what he wanted to do. He needed to catch his breath so he lowered his head and waited to go on the defensive. Wait to strike. Then he could go for her legs and sweep her clean down. This was the sort of spar he needed.

there was no joy in it. "enough" she grunted - through his fur if she had a hold. he had done well. there was no shame in stopping their spar now. especially since her pale gaze laced with concern if they continued on.

He took too long, left too much open. The woman was skilled, clearly. She came down on his neck, himself leaving too little time to react and submitted. Yet she didn't do much damage, only held his ruff, feeling her teeth sink softly into his as her command came.
Enough.
His mind went to Ronnie, in that moment. He didn't know why.
He nodded. Lifting his head slightly -- assuming she'd removed herself -- and cast a worried gaze over her. He'd tasted blood, did he hurt her? "Are you hurt?" He asked earnestly, stepping to her to inspect her shoulder himself. Something about his and Ronnie's relationship made him less hyperaware of his space. Maybe it was the proximity of how they slept that eased him.
He gave the woman a soft, apologetic smile. She didn't come from the same place as him, though she looked as if she'd met those like him. "I'm Derg." He impulsively said. His own brow quirked at himself, wondering why. He licked his licks quickly -- nervous again?

Heloise felt her fur lay flat. it was over. she did not care who won, only that it was good exercise and a decent spar. her grip released on his fur, she would step back to access any damage she had done him. her shoulder ached, and there was a small cut upon her body but all would heal. "I am fine, thank you." she would reply formally, not wishing him to trouble himself. they had both agreed to the practice and some bruises would be won naturally. she did not expected to come away with anything less than what she had gotten.
he seemed fine enough to move, so she would keep her own concerns close. he would gift her his name at last. Derg. her skull lowered in a nod. "Heloise cel Mare" it was now a custom to introduce herself with her full title. the ivory woman hoped he had learned from this bout, about how a clever mind could be just as good as brute force. for not all opponents would be so forgiving. many would take clear advantage of any situation given. and luckily for him, she had never made the practice spar more than a practice spar.
a few times she had gripped his neck and could have done a high amount of damage. "tell me of this wolf that attacked your ward" she would request instead. Heloise was new to the wilds, and she desired to know who to avoid and who to embrace.

He let his gaze cast over her once more. Assuring himself that he'd done little harm. He breathed out a sigh and inclined his head, suggesting they follow the tracks again and talk.
He shook out his pelt before starting off slowly and launched into his perception of events.
"We were returning from a festival. She strayed from the group and I didn't think much of it, she could handle herself. So I thought. I went looking for her when I realised she'd been gone for some time, I heard her cry out distantly and I had to run from the southern edge to here." He paused, shaking himself as if he could discard the guilt that had shackles around him.
"She said she was attacked by him for no reason. I believe her, she's too timid to do anything to provoke an attack like that." He glanced to Heloise before continuing the description, "He's larger than me, silver -- though probably due to the light -- and mostly dark. In daylight, possibly ashen over most of his body with the silver on his muzzle and underside."
He fell silent, putting his down to inspect the tracks. He would never shake the feeling that he'd done this to Keen. Exposed her to the worst of people. People like him.

Heloise would listen, falling into step with the man as they continued on track. a festival was a time of merit and joy. she would not forgive nor forget the being who assaulted Derg's ward. they could have taken advantage of the revelers and noise of the festival to do their hateful deed. "is she well?" the woman noticed he failed to mention if she still lived or not. judging by the desperation to improve himself, his ward could have been fatally hurt. "your ward, I mean."
though the woman would take note of the large, ashen beast that had attacked the girl. she wished she could have been there to sink her teeth into the soft muscle of his neck. "I will keep a lookout for this monster" Heloise vowed quietly. her head shifted slightly to look at Derg "if I find him, I will come to you. where are you dwelling?" a good way of asking 'where do you live' so she could easily follow up with new leads.

"She survived, yes. She will be unwell for some time though and, the damage to her is rather severe." He remembered seeing her body lying broken on the ground, the cries she gave. How she wanted him to be there. He swallowed thickly.
He should've been there.
He let his ears tilt for a moment before gesturing North, "Permafrost Hollows. My pack will be the Vartija, when we form. I will soon be going o a recruitment drive, hopefully when Keen, my ward, is well enough to travel." There was no way he was leaving her alone at the Hollow whilst he and Wintersbane went for recruits. He doubted he'd be able to tell her to stay anyways.
He licked his lips anxiously, thinking about her. He should get back soon; relocate Ronnie too. Perhaps he'd stay.
"Thank you. I wish you the best." He supposed this female wasn't looking for a pack yet, not if she was promising the possibility of finding him -- yet these days he was surprised often.

"I wish her a quick recovery, then" Heloise replied, wondering how the brute could live with himself as he savaged such a timid girl. some men were born bad, she supposed. some needed no provoking. her claws dug slowly into the earth, testing their power. she would give a nod to Derg, committing his directions and information to her memory. he wished her well, something that would be foreign to others after a spar like theirs.
no. she had exchanged blows with the man. they were comrades now. not allies, true, but two beings on the same wavelength.
"aye, good luck to you as well, sir" the woman would turn to depart. her steps were a bit slow due to the bruising of her shoulder, yet Heloise did not complain. she carried on confidently enough to allow others a pause. weakness... she refused to show it. even if that weakness was merely a small scrape and a bruise. it would take a few days to heal, yes, but she would prevail. she always did in a way.
