Having passed across the plains bordering the coast and on through the weald, Stryx had a choice to make. With the weather going more foul by the hour she could stick to the forest and hope to outlast the deepening snow or she could move on; and if she moved on, she had to decide on which trail to follow.
East would lead her across the fields and to the mountains — that much she could remember — but if she went south there was a more immediate chain; follow the terrace, see what the resulting lowlands held. With the barrier of mountains due south of her current position she figured, hell, may as well take a chance there.
The mountains would take the majority of the winter winds. Her mind was made up—and so south she went, until silverlight rose in the gloaming.
