She drew in close enough to touch, or maybe just out of reach—he wasn't about to test it. Her assessment of him was as bold as the words that flew off her lips and unsurprisingly he received mixed signals. The closeness, the commentary... the colorful language selection... well, he wasn't a prude either but that was beside the point. She, whoever she was, struck him with an air of cockiness he hadn't expected. But maybe he should have from the way she had come up.
"You're not very good at this are you," he stated at first, testing the waters with equal parts of confidence and teasing tongue. "If you're going to proposition someone, offering them dinner first will get you farther." The faintest of smiles threatened to turn the corners of his lips but he refrained, instead forcing a smirk in her direction. It lingered what felt a beat too long for his liking, but even if it had ventured into the territory of a leer, at least it seemed half fair.
Unsurprisingly, his company decided that they were not interested and left much in the way she had arrived. For Dirge, this was a little surprising, but it was not the first time he had started off on the wrong foot and had been left to his own devices. In her wake, his eyes lingered over the monolithic mountains once again and deciding it was not a point of interest today, he headed north once again. How little he knew, his next venture would pinball him back towards the thread in the tapestry laid bare... and that he would begin to pull it.
