This was supposed to be a beautiful time in her life… and yet she desired for the twins to start to gain their independence, despite independence’s own anxieties that it brought about in the young mother. It was Nanuq that started to wail… and then Siku joined in and she groaned softly, humming a soft lullaby to them as she halted the grooming, the rancid taste still on her tongue as she curled around them more, pulling them closer to her in the hopes that the warmth and sound of her heartbeat might mimic utero sounds and help lull them to sleep once more… she had not yet learned how to deal with these things and in that moment she wished Towhee were there. She’d been through this before and probably already knew what to do.
