the woman that silently joins ingram on his patrol brings to mind, unwillingly and un-welcomingly, the ungrateful child.
it is first, quick glimpse that brings to the forefront of his mind those memories.
his steps falter for a brief moment; a double take commanded and taken.
it is not her, ingram realizes in the seconds that follows.
whatever prickles of his hackles that had begun to bristle lay flat and he is quick to compose himself.
he offers no words, but silently accepts her companionship by continuing along the patrol.
amusedly wondering if her unwitting resemblance to the ungrateful child and her mother has caused her any sort of grief.
