Marina weaned her children on a tight schedule, reasoning that it would be easier to hunt for them than to keep herself fed. Already she felt that her supply of milk fell short most days. @Sobeille's contributions had made up some of the difference, and @Leonore was becoming a better hunter with each passing day — but it would be better, Marina thought, to get the children on meat soon.

She'd learned much since her first litter, when she'd thought that her children would eat their meals unaided. Marina, freshly returned from her latest hunt, called out for Crosscurrent and @Riptyde; almost as an afterthought, for @Lucyne and Lilimar too.

When the first puppy arrived, she bent to regurgitate most of her scant meal. It wouldn't be an unfamiliar sight to them, but an increasingly common one as the days went by.
