Whip did as Kalika bid, stepping forward slowly with a careful, slow gait. It was natural to fear the women of the Nereides. They were stern; excercising their divine right over wolves like Whip, consorts, whenever possible. The youth kept a low profile with his head lowered and his gaze directed at Kalika's paws.

When he neared, she spoke. Her voice far too sweet and becoming of a siren. Their tones were harsh and clinical; as frigid as the cold sea herself. But from Kalika, there was warmth -- and that made Whip wary. He did not like the unexpected, and kindness was far to rare to accuratly predict. So, he offered his answer with a nod. "I was," he said. The conversation however, had been completely one sided. "But it's nothing of importance." He missed his family, but his feelings were of no value to the Nereides, so Whip shrugged them away.
