Instead, Vilkas went toppling over, and in the shocked rush that followed a split-second later, she lost her footing too, tumbling to the ground beside him. She heard him snarl, and hastily leapt to her feet, not making the connection that he was merely reacting in instinct rather than chastising her for something done wrong.

"I'm sorry," Lily blurted automatically, backing away from him, her fur bristling with surprise. "Did I do something wrong? Should I have tried something different?" Perhaps not--she had achieved the goal, after all, of knocking him down. In a real fight, she wouldn't be apologizing. . .but she didn't want to go for his belly quite yet. He might have some pointers for her, after all.
