Three days he has been on the trail of an elusive hind. The clear weather has favored him and kept her tracks intact and once he had even seen her. She was less than a year old, small and rather malnourished. The longer he drove her to keep moving, the more likely it would be that he could force her down from exhaustion.
He will not catch her today. Daylight has not quite broken as he moves into the lush evergreen. A forest like this is where he had made his home, and he wishes to move through quickly. He moves silently along the fallen needles, hoping to cover a significant amount of ground before while he is beneath the shadows.
