As quickly as he had fired up, the man felt the sag of defeat shoot through him at her final words—that she so desperately wished his family accepted her, loved her, as much as he did. She was his best friend, his confidant. She had, for all intents and purposes, been his first love, even if it had been unrequited. She had felt the pain he had felt when he lost his father. She had loved his sisters like they had been her family.

The idea of not having her in his life was too much, and his ears slid back to his skull, his broad muzzle reaching out to tentatively nudge at her cheek. “You mean the world to me, too. Durnehviir is…was insecure in our relationship…and Talos took that to heart. Just let them get to know you.”
