I'll try.It was really all he could do. Fatherhood wouldn't be hard in some ways, but in some he felt it would be harder than he could imagine. It was true they were similar in a way others weren't... Gannet was practical in almost all things, but his practicality lent itself to a gentler understanding than hers.
