Trees were dull; Mavis had come to that conclusion after a few hours of steady trekking through the forest. Or maybe she just had an exceptionally short attention span. She'd been following the river for a while because surely water meant food, but unfortunately she could spot nothing easy. No crabs, no carrion, no stinky dead things. Unlike any fresh water they had on the islands, this one only had bullet-speed little silver fish which were definitely too fast for the pirate girl to catch. Mavis had learned that the hard way already (and no, we're not gonna talk about that).

Her stomach grumbled a complaint.

Shit shit this was definitely a bad idea. But she needed food. Mavis emerged from between two particularly densely folaiged trees and out into a clearing, where she stopped in her tracks. Congrats, you played yourself. "Well, you're definitely not a tree," she mused to the silver wolf ahead of her, her hind-quarters still part bramble bush. Stupid, stupid.
