The scent of his lover was pungent and strong here. He strode over the borders with a sense of belonging, burly shoulders shifting to and fro with his movement across the plains.
A lake came, and he drank. Drinking thirstily, only to see the pale woman approach. His eyes shifted sideways, focusing hard upon her frame.
He barked her way, lifting his muzzle, water dribbling down his chin and throat as he trotted.
A younger wolf, it seemed. A new face. He cleaned the lake-water from his lips with his tongue but continued to fix his gaze upon her, nostrils flaring. He'd stop short but would draw in her scent, deeply, ascertaining where she'd come from—
And who she was?
