I'm having Esme come back... I'm sorry for disappearing.
this second trek up the mountain was worse than the first.
she came not with hope and curiosity, but with embarrassment and shame. no more than a few days passed after she was accepted into Moonspear before an ache in her heart drove her to flee. she had tracked him down, the man who had caused it all, only to be unceremoniously rejected.
to make matters worse, esme had sustained some injuries after a tussle with a pack of coyotes. She was covered in bruises, hidden beneath her fur - but the scattering of lacerations across her face and body was clearly visible. She favored her left hind leg, as some of the metatarsals were either bruised or cracked. it was a great labor to drag herself up the steep incline, until she finally reached the borders along the flank of Moonspear.
finally able to pause, she collapsed onto the earth and lifted a howl to the sky. part of her hoped @Njord would not be the one to answer. he had been so kind to allow a cousin he barely knew into his Moonspear family... and she had returned the kindness with a careless and selfish abandonment.
once again overcome with self-pity and shame, esme dropped her head between her front paws. silent tears streamed from her lavender eyes.

The borders became more familiar with each pass she made, committing to memory not only the scents of the wolves of Moonspear, but of Moontide and Moonglow as well, though she wasn't sure which name went with which sister pack. Still acclimatizing to the elevation, she found that border patrols suited her best, as her contribution to the pack thus far. She would work on getting used to the thinner air bit by bit, so that she would be more useful if she was called upon to hunt higher up on the slopes. She did not want to pass out from altitude sickness in front of the pack!
She was in the area when a frail voice called out to be attended. Normally, she might have simply let higher authorities handle the request on their own, but there was something about the voice that caused her concern. Sure enough, when she caught sight of the wolf, she was slack upon the ground, breathing, but covered in bite marks indicative of some sort of scuffle. She was clearly in a lot of pain, physically and emotionally.
She approached with some caution, scenting first to see if there was any hint that the wolf might be carrying a disease passed on by whoever it was that had attacked her. The woman's eyes were clear, though they glistened with tears. "Peace be," She greeted, her voice sympathetic and worried. "What happen?" She asked as she came closer, reading the woman's expression for permission to come closer.

Her ears caught the sounds of approaching footsteps and she slowly lifted her head off the ground to look for the source . A she-wolf drew near, keeping an understandable distance for the time being , though her voice offered not only peace, but also sympathy.
Esme lowered her ears in a sign of respect, swaying her tail as a gesture of beckoning the stranger nearer if she so desired. She hoped the woman hadn't noticed her tears -- Esme thought she likely looked pathetic enough with her injuries alone -- but this was doubtful; her eyes still felt moist, and indeed there were vague streaks running from her eyes down along the sides of her muzzle.
"Coyotes," she explained simply. "I got into a bit of a quarrel with them over a carcass," Esme sniffed and attempted to straighten her posture. "I am alright, though. My hind leg is the worst of it."
"My name is Esme."

She felt no pressure coming from the woman, but a welcome which drew Simbelmyne closer to inspect her. The first thing she did was lower her own posture- as she was still new to the area, and drew closer so she could press her muzzle against the vexed woman's cheek. Sadness hung about her in a veil; Myna doubted that she had been crying only from the pain.
"This time of year," She said with a sage nod. Coyotes were opportunistic and they likely felt pressure to eat as much as they could so that they could survive the winter. She glanced over the woman's hind leg, and nodded. In a gesture intended to cheer her spirits and invite friendliness between them, Myna reached over to rub her temple against the other's shoulder, gently.
"Esme. I Sim-" She said, before she caught herself. The chosen nickname for her had been much shorted, and she smiled apologetically. "I Myna." She said. "I think we can find you medicine, hmm?" She said. "Have you been here before?" There was something familiar about the way the woman spoke.
