Dragoncrest Cliffs Tardy for the party

In the split second before Portia answered, Wildfire realized she already knew the answer. The flashback struck her like a bolt of lightning, the first of its kind and hopefully the last. She stood there, stricken, for a beat afterward, all of Portia's words having gone unheard as she went very still and let the phantom pain and a terrible sense of anxiety slowly ebb from her. She wasn't trapped in a dark, foul-smelling cave with a broken leg anymore...

When her chestnut gaze refocused, she realized Portia was looking at her in anticipation, clearly having just asked a question. "I'm—sorry," Wildfire said haltingly, a slight hitch in her chest. She exhaled, then drew in a steadying breath. "I think I just had a flashback," she admitted, because it was Portia. But she quickly added, "I don't really want to dwell on it though. It was just—weird." And painful. And scary. And awful.

But... "There're happier things to think about," she said, almost as if to herself. She did a mental rewind to capture the healer's query and said, "I might go back to the log. It'd probably make the most sense. Although I love the redwood. Maybe I'll find someplace new. Who knows? Holy crap, I can't believe I'm pregnant—still..."
