a drenched soul lie helplessly in the snow. he should have been dead a while ago, but fate kept him breathing. how awful, he thought. it would have been much better if he were dead. this sorry excuse of a body would barely move, no matter how hard he tried. he’d drag himself a few feet away from the lake before slipping back into the dark. this persisted for hours.

every moment he was awake he thought of those two strangers. to hell with them. why didn’t they just leave him in the water to die? why would they save him only to have him slowly wither away? fuck those guys.

felipe would eventually drag himself to safety. some abandoned badger den, where he’d spend a day or two to recover. all he could think about was the canyon. how much he wanted to be there. warm and dry with the boys. with zachary. happy again. he should have never left them. now he was in this damp den. sick and lonely.

a couple days passed. he was strong enough to move, but still weak. he should’ve stayed in that den, but impulse got the best of him as always. felipe stumbled out into the world, sickness and all. time would decide if he lived or perished in winter’s hands.
