Crisp, early morning dew clung to her forelegs as she meandered about the shallow creeks that bled into the main lake, her nose low upon the rocks, eager to snatch any snacks that lied waiting between waterlogged pebbles. A snake would pop out here and there, often followed by salamanders or frogs that were on the verge of hibernation, but none were slow enough to be caught between pearly fangs.

It was with an irritated click of her tongue that she sent the last of her patience into the fog ridden air, her focus now set on a far easier, yet less delectable morsel. Paws pushed aside countless stones in their pursuit until eventually, without any warning, she plunged her muzzle beneath the water and clamped down with a satisfying c r u n c h.

The young wolf was lingering by the lake, she didn't even try to fish this time. She knew that she would fail just like she did every time. Minnow looked down at her reflection in the water and gave a saddened sigh. Not even noticing the other wolf that was near.
