All Welcome
In the depths of Ursus's valley, it felt warm.

Be it the lack of a bitter gale to sweep down into their home or simply a true sign of spring beckoning upon their doorstep she did not know, but it felt like a fresh breath back into her life. Phoebe was adjusting for lack of better words; her time alone still had her cornered into feeling she very much needed to be on the fringes of the burgeoning pack. Her soft nature had been a focal point in being turned away, a certain lack of assertiveness that had made her hone her ability to survive.

And so she had, for quite a spell.

But here, it seemed unnecessary and yet she could not quite shake the feeling.

Even in the depths of the wood, she moved spectre-like through gaunt trees yet to harbor new life, where the earth was damp beneath her feet and slick with mud. Here, where the snow lingered in shade but not enough to smother spring sprigs that she uncovered gently. Useful things they were, would be, if the weather held and nature kind enough to let them flourish.

Her muzzle pushed the snow away from them at the base of an old oak that was far more prideful and towering than she. Perhaps she'd go for a hunt today, she thought, or perhaps she would seek out another and try to tentatively reach for more of a connection beyond a chance meeting with Merrick.

Perhaps, perhaps...

She hummed to herself, some nonchalant, creative ditty, and surveyed the plants.

So many new members that Skoll couldn't keep track of- it didn't help that Merrick asked tasks of him that he had no idea how to produce. Skoll and the man had a talk before, and Skoll could only think of them as some strange friends that speak over work topics most of the time. However, Skoll couldn't help but say yes to the things proposed to him- he couldn't say no, and that was a problem.

As the tall shadow moved through the place that almost belonged to Ursus, he spotted another dark shadow through the place. Ursus was protectively surrounded by a valley of sorts, but they also were boxed in. The one he noticed was a woman, based on scent- which meant somehow the pack had another girl besides the mute one. It didn't combat the number of males, but Skoll didn't really care about girls anyway.

"Never seen you before." He noted, speaking to the other shadow.

Quiet footfalls alerted her, and the humming stopped.

Her head lifted to take him in as he spoke and for a moment, Phoebe was captivated by his unusual gaze. It was intense, but not the sort that suggested he was pouring with a strong conviction; she had never seen anyone with eyes two different shades. The dichotomy was intriguing, but for once she did not feel the innate urge to shrink and shy away.

Today seemed to be a good day.

"Well I've never seen you before either," she retorted with a playful lilt, only to amend, "except at the meeting Merrick called. You were in the crowd, weren't you?" One of the many, many men that she had been told of in fewer words. The strangeness of her being apart of the minority was lost on her. There had only been a small sea of faces that she thought she could place.

"I'm Phoebe, what's your name?"

Skoll's goal wasn't to intimidate, if it was he'd have come in with no words, sending a growl to the wind. The dark man wasn't one to intimidate right out of the gates, but his strong and silent gaze often made it seem like it was a fact. The woman in front of him wasn't impressive in the slightest, but he needed to know about the pack members, didn't he?

She was being playful, and asking about if he was there during the meeting. He might have been, he might not have. It was for him to know and her to find out. Maybe him being on the tactical side of the pack was for the better- watching others to see their weakness before reporting back so the other wolves could exploit it. What a spy he was. Even though he was only watching their own pack, now.

Names names names. All anyone ever wanted to know. Skoll wondered if he should have replied with he didn't have one.

"Skoll."

He didn't answer her, but then again he didn't seem to be too much of the sort for conversation. It left her awkward, stuck out like a sore thumb that didn't quite know how to talk her way into a better path of conversation, and she reassessed him to herself. She'd have to be persistent if she wanted to make any sort of rapport; she couldn't afford to shy away and find some reason to excuse herself.

It didn't stop her from continuing to be inquisitive, at least.

"So," her voice trailed, "have you been with Merrick long?" She felt she already knew the answer—long enough—and that was one the assumption he bothered to answer her anyway.

He didn't answer her question before, forgotten to in the slightest. The topic of conversation also appeared to be tossed away in favor of something different. it never was Skoll's goal to make someone fear him, or weary, he just didn't know how to conversate correctly when it came to things. At least, he thought it to be the case.

A new question, one he could answer with some words, or just not at all. However, it seemed to be a question many asked.

"I was with them only when it was Merrick, and that dark woman with no words." He replied to that. He was there before most of the other wolves, and it was weird, to say the least. That he was one of the first wolves officially with the group.

She couldn't help but wonder what the beginnings of Ursus had been like, when it was only three of them than the robust numbers that they boasted now. She didn't particularly feel the necessity to try either—she was too well acquainted with what it meant to be apart of something small in numbers, a thought that had been best left to fizzle out when it had outlived its usefulness.

Ursus and Merrick had only begun to pave the way for her to think further in advance, beyond the premise of a meal of some sense of safety. It would be a slow road to venture, but she wanted to take it to as well as it seemed to, as well as any other in their midst had.

"They must think highly of you then," she said with a faint smile. "And you must share the pride they have in seeing this come together. I've never been apart of anything like this before, such a mismatched group and all. I like it." She shared some of that pride too, even if she may not have been entirely welcome to it. It was an infectious feeling, frittered away from the collective high of seeing them altogether and having rallied to a common cause.

Merrick and the dark woman must have been together for a long time before Skoll himself showed up. He could feel the energy between the two of them in some ways, that they were closer than what it looked like from the outside. He didn't particularly care for it, though. He didn't care how long the two knew one another for, all he cared about was making sure the pack stayed up and didn't somehow crash and burn while the world sped up around them.

The girl seemed more curious about things than anything, though Skoll didn't have many answers for her statements. "I don't know." He paused. Did the two of them think highly of him? Skoll could only recall one moment when he interacted with the mute woman, which was when some stranger showed on their borders and Skoll mentioned that the stranger would get eaten by bears. She said the pack would fail, and it didn't. Ursus was strong and it was growing.

"I suppose there's many kinds of wolves here. Though none of them are that interesting."
