Redsand Canyon i am one among the dunes

He lags behind the group-- Donovan, Derg, and two other newcomers he couldn't quite name. The sun is at its apex, directly overhead, and their shadows are almost directly beneath them. It looks about as brutal and surreal as it feels. It's cooler down in the canyon, which is thrown into shade. Here, there is room for flowers to grow. The ground is soothing to his feet, calloused and smarting from days of traveling on rough sand, blistering like the inside of a kiln.
