The last several days had been filled with uneventful exploration and the weather growing steadily colder. He'd chosen to head north to avoid trespassing on claimed lands, and so far he'd yet to come across any others. Alarick recalled the words that’d been spoken, although they’d never really left his thoughts. The idea of allying with a pack for the winter, or possibly longer, was not something that he could easily dismiss. Should he run across any others, the former hunter resolved to inquire more about the packs of the area, if the situation seemed ideal. It was buried in the very core of his being, after all, that desire to be of use to more than just himself.

For now, however, his attention remained fixated on the forest around him as he traversed the area gradually, committing the lands to memory. The trees surrounding him were nothing short of magnificent, stretching off in every visible direction. He knew the river was still off to his east somewhere, not terribly far away, as well, having made a northward bend rather than continuing on into the pack territory.

He’d even scented deer, earlier, and kept his steps quiet as he sought a more recent trail from them. If he were fortunate, perhaps he could even locate a lame one to manage one on his own.
