The land was sinking into sleep, readying itself for the winter ahead. She feels it in the crispness of the browned grass underneath her feet as she walks north-and-east. There was a chance, a strong possibility, that they would be stranded for the winter, if the storms were bad enough. It was a risk she could take — the land here was plentiful, unlike the torn-to-ruins shore around Tortuga.

But that was the far future. She still had her vendetta. It was what drove her back, fueled her to take matters into her own hands, even as she instructed her crew to find the little red bastard and Rusalka. She left the woods where they set up camp, crossed a river into the open seashore plains. Under the sea spray there was a familiar scent, something tingling at her nose as she moved. She followed it diligently, her nose working overtime as she scanned the plains, determined to know what this familiar smell was.

She had returned to their base of operations after a solo hunting trip. Two rabbits dangling from her jaws, she left them for her crew to grab should they be hungry. She nodded at those who lingered near, her grey eyes searching for one in particular.

Finding her target, their captain, as she wandered off. Curious, Latoya was quick to run after her. She had obviously caught the scent of something, and Midnight never missed a hunt. She silently followed her captain, relying on their familiarity for her to recognize her tagging along. Sleeping wasn't her forte anyway.

The more she investigated the smells around her, the more the scent clicked in her head, faded and muddled memories, stained with blood coming to light. It wasn't the cream-and-cinnamon woman exactly, but the smell was similar enough.

She looked up at the sound of pawsteps coming towards her and was relieved to see the void-furred woman. Something smells familiar here, she says bluntly. Latoya could help her. A hunter's skills overlapped with a scout's, perhaps she would be better at finding the scent. Wolf smell. I think we're close to Rusalka,
