for an outrider thread!

He had walked due northeast for four days now, his step contented in a ritualized trot that covered tens of miles as Cuan descended the slopes of the Sunspire and onto the wide northeastern range. He had skirted the Swiftcurrent border, aware of the uneasy truce between the packs, and opted to brave the wetlands. Fortunately for him, the water levels were low and his long legs provided enough stilt power to cross each dry patch, and now he was back on open territory with the burly gray mountains filling his view. They were magnificent compared to the stark thumb of the Sunspire, mountains that held the power of the earth between their proud brow; holding the cool breath of the sky trapped in a glacier that glinted in the cloudy afternoon light. Pine trees were beginning to obscure his view of the mountains above, but the enigma of ice that stayed frozen through the year drew the curious male in a purposeful trot.

He had come a long way since his arrival in Teekon about a year before; flitting from several unstable packs. But the Sunspire seemed a rock among rough waters, and they had shown it when Cuan had greeted the pack's most valuable asset; its pups. And as his feet traversed pine needle-strewn floors, he felt a swell a pride for his own pack as he scented another. The limber agouti male stopped, his tail wagging slightly at the prospect the aroma brought, but dared not to investigate on the other side of the invisible line.
