he wondered if he ever would not be impressed by the trees of sapphique's forests. they were impossibly wide and even more impossibly tall, and they cast a canopy upon the forest floor that seemed ancient and primordial.
pacing their well-worn trails had become a habit for lafayette, and he did so today, pausing here and there to leave his scent upon the trunks like he'd seen other adults do.
he glanced up, finding a glimmer of the midday sky amidst the leaf cover.
the beam lit his eyes a bright, glittering teal, the color of ocean waves against relentless sunlight.
while he was distracted, something crossed his path, long-limbed and swift. lafayette snapped out of his reverie and cast his gaze about, looking for the creature—but it was gone.
