I am on mobile today but I couldn’t resist bringing her in.

Brooke arrived at daybreak. Alone like this, she was crepuscular; getting most of her distance in the morning and evening let her sleep through the hottest parts of the day.

Today was going to be a scorcher, alright. Heat lines already smudged the horizon’s edge and the wide orange yolk of the sun.

The flatlands did little to hide her, silhouette visible from every direction, but she was used to this; such is life in the flatlands she came from, and she knew that as long as the wind held her favor she’d be able to spot anyone from any direction.

With her, she carried a small brown-and-white pelt, once practically filled to the brim with herbs and near empty as she entered the wilds. She was surprised at all the meadow had to offer. She set down her bag next to a flat rock and began to work, pulling up flowers, roots, and stems to dry.

also on mobile for this reply lol. Sorry if too short.

S’ari continued to wander the desert, though she was going in the wrong direction. She really should’ve been heading east, further in, but she could not help exploring all that this new desert had to offer.

Besides, every desert had a scent. A smell. And that was how she could tell she was still in it. This place still smelled of the desert, underneath the sweet scent of blossoms. And as long as it still smelled like home, then she would be all right.

Up ahead she could see a wolf. The desert was an open place where one could see and hear for miles. She’d picked up on the wolf some time ago and had decided to follow, to engage. The others she’d met so far had been kind enough, though her cautiousness never fully left her. Now they stood in a beautiful desert meadow, with flowers abound, and S’ari looked about her and sighed contentedly. Everything reminded her of home. In fact, she was home.

She studied the wolf a bit more and then released a small chuff, and waited.

*matches my length* “sorry if it’s too short” NONSENSE! <3

Nose-deep in shrubbery, the florals had shrouded her stalker’s scent, but she thanked the Lord that her eyes were fully functional when she saw that coyote.

She had been in the desert long enough to run into her fair share of ‘yotes. Much like wolves, every individual was different and she knew that despite their size, some could put up more than a handful and a headache. Had there been food involved, Brooke may not have been so welcoming, but at the stranger’s chuff she rejoined with an affable, Howdy.

Lol! It's hard to determine length on mobile. Screen too smol!

'Howdy' was a strange word to S'ari. She had never heard it before. However, given the wolf's posture and tone of voice, she had to assume it meant something like 'Hello.' Feeling a little braver and more at ease, she came closer, though kept a fair distance between them, and stayed up on her paws, ready to dance away into the desert should this canid prove violent.

Coyote greets you, she said, dipping her head, her tail set to a slow wag behind her. Then her eyes took in the wolf's dropped pelt, and wandered back to the wolf herself, with her nose having been in the shrubbery. S'ari knows some of these plants, though not all. She can tell you what they do, if anything at all... Her voice ended on a questioning note.

Most of the coyotes she had met sounded kinda funny — some, she couldn’t understand at all — but she’d never met one that talked quite like that. The stranger had some kind of accent, but at least her words made sense.

Brooke felt a sting of indignance. Why would she be collecting all this stuff if she didn’t know what to do with it? But the truth of it was that Brooke’s medicinal knowledge was … lacking, to put it kindly. What she did know, she was incredibly skilled with, but her expertise didn’t extend much past first aid. So she had collected the herbs she knew how to work with, and not much else.

Reluctantly, she said, Well, alright then.

oh no i should never have had her offer help LOL. Idk anything about plants, but SHE does. Uhhh, scrambles for medicinal plants. If my descriptions are vague that's cos I'm bullshitting my way through this.

This wolf did not seem very happy to see S'ari, but she was wolf. S'ari supposed she should be happy that she was not being eaten. She frowned a little, partly in unhappiness, partly in concentration as she looked over the flowers and other plants.

Daintily, she stepped near the first one her eyes had recognized. This one is sage. Good for digestion, sore throat, cough. Also good to chew up and put on cuts. She glanced at the wolf, then looked around her once more, searching out some other plant. A short plant with tiny pale yellow-and-orange flowers caught her gaze. This is yarrow. You must be careful with this one, yes? Give it to someone who has eaten something bad and it will make them throw up. Good for expelling poison or to simply induce vomiting in one who has been nauseous with no relief. Much must be given to cause this effect, and the patient will not like it; it is very bitter.

S'ari looked up then, to see if the other was paying attention.
