After his run-in with Potema Charon had come home, making sure that there was nothing left of her scent and wandering to clear his head first. He needed to stay closer to home, he realised, and at the same time, there was a certain sense of adventure to the fact that he could do these things and it didn't really impact the rest of the world — his world — at all. He was not sure whether he felt empowered or guilty, wasn't sure whether he'd done a noble act or simply disguised a terrible thing inside a noble act. Whatever had happened, he would put it behind him and shook off whatever remnants of guilt he might have felt easily enough, as he had all his life. The thought of his little angels at home faded any thought of could-be's or potential problems from his mind, and made him realise that whatever paths he strayed to, he'd always end up home, here, with his family.
Speaking of home, he was on the look-out for @Floki since returning home. He hadn't properly spoken to his brother one on one since the birth of his girls, and he was looking forward to doing this again. There was something on his mind, actually, something he wanted to talk about with Flóki because he wasn't sure if maybe, his brother needed some steering to the right side; it felt like forever since Dhole'd deserted them, and Flóki deserved something new and better. He might not be realising it was right in front of him. Nose to the ground, Charon crossed the borders and started through the forest and towards the mountain's slopes, deciding to check the rendezvous site first to see if he could catch trace of his brother's scent that afternoon.

Floki spent a lot of time near the rendezvous site these days, now that the girls had been granted more freedom. It was nice to know that he could see them whenever he wanted; they no longer needed the constant protection of a den or of their mother. Now, they were the responsibility of the whole pack. Presently, he had just buried a plump squirrel in a cache, knowing that it would come in handy to feed his nieces or Amekaze and Charon themselves, whoever got hungry first.
He kicked some dirt over the pile and then ambled away, mentally shifting through his to-do list for the day. Having already hunted, he supposed that a patrol would be in order -- but before he left the area, he caught a glimpse of Charon through the trees. His ears pricked and he accelerated, moving quickly to catch up with his brother.
"Bro!" he called with a grin as he strode up alongside the Alpha male and delivered a nudge to his shoulder. Despite the fact that Charon was now not only a leader but a father, Floki still felt as close to him as ever. They were both often busy and didn't get to spend as much time together, but that had done nothing to decrease the strength of their bond. "How's it going?" he asked amiably, falling into step with Charon.

Charon was pleased to find Flóki just as he seemed to be on his way out. He didn't even need to chuff to grab his brother's attention, who seemed to feel the same. The bump to the shoulder was returned with an affectionate nip to Flóki's cheek and a wag of his tail. "Good to see you, Flóks," he said with a broad smile that displayed his adoration for his younger brother. Flóki was the one wolf that Charon'd known the longest in his life so far; the one that had stayed, and that loyalty was priceless.
"The girls are growing well and we haven't lost any, so I'm good," Charon said with a smirk. He was proud of his girls and the confidence they displayed so far. They could be a bit of a nuisance, but such was expected with little kids. "How've you been?" he asked in return, though was quick to follow up with: "Met any ladies lately?" It seemed forever since Dhole'd gone and Charon's opinion was that it was time for Flóki to move on.

Floki chuckled at Charon's nonchalant comment about the status of his girls. He knew that his brother cared deeply about his daughters, even if he didn't outwardly show it to others. "I played hide and seek with Hydra the other day," he said; he was glad that he was able to spend time with his nieces as they grew. His own family had been splintered from the time he was young, so he felt it was important that they were familiar with their uncle and knew that they could trust him.
Charon's next questions caught Floki somewhat off guard. He blinked, then shook his head. Sure, there were cute girls he had met during his travels, like Aria and Banner, but he hadn't seen or spoken to either one of them in quite some time. "Nah," he replied with a shrug of his shoulders, though his expression then darkened. "I did run into Wildfire recently, when I was scouting up near the Sunspire for Amekaze," he said, the corners of his lips pulling down into a frown. He had always wished her well, but to be dismissed by her had hurt. In the time since their encounter, his feelings had festered and he had grown bitter.
"Seems like she's joined up with another pack. Good for her," he continued, the last three words colored with sarcasm. He could only assume that the puppy and the adult she had been with were her packmates. "But whatever. I'm over it." He shrugged. It wasn't the complete truth, but he certainly wouldn't greet her with kindness if he ever saw her again.

It was nice that his children had such great relatives around when growing up. He and Flóki both hadn't had the luxury to grow up with two functioning parents and it'd been difficult. Charon's girls would get everything they needed and more, and so far things were going really well.
Asking Flóki about the ladies seemed to have the wrong effect though, since he had apparently met up with Dhole and it hadn't gone over well. "Did she say anything?" Charon couldn't help but ask. He had never quite gotten over Dhole's betrayal himself, seemingly unable to forget the day she'd run out on them all without second thoughts. When difficult things happened you just had to deal with shit best you could, not run away from it — that was something he'd learned through life, but had been imprinted even more with Dhole's actions. "The little bitch," he added, though he looked a little startled that he'd spoken those words out loud instead of keeping them inside of his mind.
Anyway; "Don't you think it's time to move on?" he suggested light-heartedly, shifting the subject around. "How about Pyx? She seems like a nice girl." He watched Flóki's face closely so that he could see whether his brother was interested in the least. Charon liked Pyx, and so he thought her a perfect fit for his brother. Besides, she was clumsy and silly like Dhole, so it fit in the expected pattern.

Floki shook his head. "No. Just that they were in the middle of a hunt," he replied. It had been all too apparent that his sudden appearance was nothing but an inconvenience to Wildfire, so he had departed without attempting to talk with her. A conversation was what he needed to have with her, but it seemed that the time for that had passed.
Charon's vindictive statement took Floki by surprise, but even more shocking was that he found himself nodding in agreement. He had never anticipated that he could have such feelings of animosity towards his ex-mate, but Charon was just helping to stoke the fire. He clenched his teeth, then his brows drew up at Charon's next suggestion.
"Pyx?" he asked, briefly confused. He knew his packmate and enjoyed her company -- he could even say that she was cute. But he hadn't even stopped to consider her in that way before. "Uh, I mean, maybe. I don't know that I want to settle down right now, though. With all the traveling and stuff," he added. It was true, but not something he had given much thought to; Floki's relationship was with the open road, at least for now.

It was a bit disappointing that Flóki didn't seem very interested in Pyx, at least not right off the bat. Oh well, maybe he had seen things wrong. To him, Pyx seemed like a perfect match to Flóki and the other way around. They were both good wolves and he enjoyed their company. Imagine if they'd get together.
"Hmm, I guess. Though travelling doesn't mean you can't have a girl waiting for you at home." He grinned and added, "Or did your nieces scare you into not needing any of your own any time soon?" He wouldn't even be too surprised if it were like that. They wore him down plenty enough, even though he also enjoyed being with his daughters and they amused the crap out of him a lot of the time.

Floki shrugged, still having a hard time committing to anything that Charon was suggesting. But although he didn't seem eager in that moment, this particular topic would remain in his mind going forward. He knew that he was reaching an age when it was appropriate to settle down -- but other than Wildfire, there just hadn't been anyone to fully pique his interest.
He laughed at his brother's quip about the four girls. "They certainly are a handful," he agreed, although he couldn't have imagined them any other way. Charon would never sire any puppies that could be deemed boring, he was sure of it. He paused, then said, "Maybe I should get out there and try to specifically recruit some females. There are an awful lot of guys around here lately." He was half-joking, but the thought of traveling in search of girls didn't sound so bad.

Pyx seemed to have escaped Flóki's mind already. Charon wondered why he didn't see her as such a good fit for himself as Charon did. She was just like Dhole in so many ways, except hopefully no one like Goober would come along and ruin her too. But they were prepared this time, so surely it wouldn't end that way. Yet the subject of Pyx seemed to have been closed off entirely now that Flóki started about bringing in more females to the pack.
Charon nodded with a "mm-hm", not really having noted a decline in females in the pack. Just Ame and Pyx, as well as his four daughters, were more than enough for him to handle. "Maybe. But let me know if you want a date with Pyx. I could probably convince her to give you a try." He grinned at Flóki, knowing well that his brother was a catch and she'd probably say yes, anyway.

Despite Floki's somewhat silly suggestion, Charon still seemed fixated on the idea that he should give Pyx a chance. Floki narrowed his eyes slightly, eyeing his brother suspiciously. "Have you already talked to Pyx about it?" he asked. He seemed awfully convinced that it would all work out just the way he wanted it to; Floki wouldn't have been surprised if Charon had been putting the puzzle pieces together behind the scenes.

At Flóki's question, Charon laughed. Did his brother really think he would ask Pyx before making sure that they actually liked each other? Well, okay, he'd probably do it that way with Pyx, if Flóki agreed, but, y'know, that was different, because Flóki was his brother. It made sense he'd ask him first before going around asking dates from girls.
"Of course not... Yet." He grinned. "But I could gauge if she's interested, if you want to." And by 'gauge if she's interested', he of course meant, 'make sure she goes on a date with you'. It was time to wash Dhole from Flóki's mind for good this time.

He dug his toes into the dirt, still feeling a bit unsure about all of this. Charon had always been a wolf with a plan -- and apparently, this was his latest. When he decided something was going to happen, he was bound and determined to make it come to fruition. If nothing else, Charon was dedicated.
"I guess," he finally relented after a moment. What was the worst that could happen? If he and Pyx didn't hit it off that way, there would be nothing stopping them from remaining friends. At this point, he was beginning to see that disagreeing with Charon would be futile.

Charon hadn't expected his brother to give in, so he was delighted when he did. A grin broke across his face even if it wasn't a very enthused response. He wasn't so sure when he would next speak to Pyx one on one; with the children about, it wasn't always easy to find wolves of his pack singled out, and this didn't seem a subject to discuss in front of his children. Especially if Flóki wasn't even sure yet if he would like this. "Alright, then. I'll bring it up casual-like when I next see her." Pyx was such a delicate flower, Charon was pretty sure that even if she didn't like Flóki she wouldn't be offended or laugh in his face. She'd just be really awkward and nice about it, then, so Charon didn't see any issues.
November 20, 2016, 08:40 PM
The pleasure on Charon's face was unmistakable. Floki couldn't help but roll his eyes in a perfectly brotherly reaction. This conversation hadn't gone at all how he thought it would -- he had expected to complain about Wildfire and receive Charon's sympathy, which he had, kind of. But he hadn't expected to be set up with Pyx. He supposed he would just have to see how things played out.
"Can we go visit the girls?" he asked, speaking of his nieces.

The subject of Pyx was closed (for now) and Charon nodded at Flóki's query. He was ever the proud father, always eager to show his children to the world, so of course the answer was yes. "Of course," he said, and he turned to make his way towards the rendezvous site. They were not far off, since that's where Charon'd been on his way to to look for Flóki. "Girls, uncle Flóks is here!" he called as they reached the rendezvous site, sure that his girls were ready for a fun day with uncle Flóki.
good place to fade? :D
