Charon watched as Saskia tried to smash the crab. After the first try, he said, "No, no, you gotta hit it with its body on the rock," as though he thought that she was purposely missing the crab's body to the rock. "Like -- yeah, that's better."
Eventually she got it right, and the crab cracked open, exposing what was inside. Charon didn't even notice that it was still attached to Saskia's tongue at first, until he cast her a good look and she looked at him helplessly. "Shit, is it not letting go?" Charon said, a spark of amusement dancing in his eyes, but he kept his face concerned-looking; she was having a hard enough time as it were. He had to admit, it was kind of a funny sight (it wasn't that Charon was sadistic, it was mostly just that empathy wasn't his strong suit, and his childhood with his own many crab pinchings was very long ago to him) but he kept himself from laughing because she looked genuinely in a bit of a panic. And anyway, he should probably save her, because taking the meat and leaving now would be too cruel.
"Alright, uhh..." Charon looked at the dead crab dangling from the tongue, and he moved his head in closer to look at the status. "I'm just gonna try to get it loose," Charon said and he stretched out his nose towards Saskia's mouth, where he tried to grab the top half of the crab's pincher to try and wedge it apart so that she'd be released once more.
