Amekaze did not seem to mind much that she had no family left. Perhaps it was something that came with age, that when you grew older, you understood that you couldn't stay with everyone all the time, that relational ties sometimes just faded. Charon decided not to think much more on it, since Ame did not, and instead they moved onto the next subject when Ame asked him about Tevinter.
"His real name's Jorunn, and he looks just like Flóki. We lost him in the same bear attack that cost Atreyu his leg." Charon looked a little disturbed as he thought of it — the sickening crack of bones and the tearing of flesh as though Atreyu was a mere bunny rabbit tossed around — but he quickly shook the thoughts from his mind. He needed to be brave when they faced the bears, needed to work on somehow forgetting what replayed in his mind so often when he thought back to that moment. "Jorunn was dragged out to sea, and we looked everywhere, but we assumed him to be dead since he was no where to be found." And Ragnar had said that wolves who were gone for so long were often dead. But Jorunn had returned, and so had Osprey. Were Charon's father and Liyaní still alive out there somewhere, too, maybe even Kevlyn? ... Maybe even his mother?
Charon looked around as though he was looking for the bears, though he had been lost in thought a moment, before he continued: "He calls himself Tevinter now. When he got out of the ocean he was adopted by the Frostfurs, or whatever — I don't know them — but they left the area so he decided to come back to his real family. I dunno, though. He doesn't seem too warm towards me, but maybe that's just 'cause I called him out on his bullshit when he first came to our borders and accused us of not looking for him." Charon looked wry, and he felt wry. He hoped that his bonds with Jorunn could be reconciled in the future, but right now they weren't looking too fly. If he proved himself as a member of the pack and a member of his family, though, maybe things would be mended again.
"Wait," Charon said and he stopped suddenly, his nose gingerly testing the air around him while he tried to define what he found. "I found something." Charon sniffed a nearby tree, which smelled a lot like bear, and when he put his nose to the ground the scent trail seemed to be leading out of the forest and up towards the mountain. He looked back at Ame, hoping she could confirm his findings.
