The young female introduced herself as Desna, and Steady smiled. However, it was quickly wiped from his face as she told him he would not be able to see Scarlett. How could she say that without referring to Scarlett first? He tried to compose himself, but when Desna told Steady of the attack, he plumped down on his haunches in fear he would collapse. Scarlett had been attacked by a cougar. Was it the same cougar that had tried to kidnap Mason? The way Desna spoke, she didn't expect her mother to survive her injuries.

Steady couldn't respond. His eyes were glued to the ground between his front paws. He was in shock. It seemed like he had just met her, and now he wouldn't ever be able to see her again. He knew he needed to say something, but he just couldn't force himself yet.
