Then she turned the subject around again and asked a very unspecific question. She mentioned a variety of subjects that he could choose from free range, something that annoyed Charon a little — how could he give her anything if she didn't even know what she wanted? — but he ignored the irritation that bubbled up and pushed it away. His face showed a moment of irritation, but he did not voice it. "I was born in Stavanger Bay, to the north of here. I became Beta of it at nine months. Nearly a year ago now I got into a fight near the Sunspire, to the east, and was found by Amekaze, who was its Alpha at the time. Both our packs were too small to survive the upcoming winter, so we banded our packs together." That had to be an interesting story for sure — he always liked telling it, too, because it made him look like a hero for saving both their packs from starvation that winter.
