She had failed.
Liri could recognize this but that did not make it any easier to bear. Aaron had entrusted Rosings to her, practically solely with his disturbed mate's ravings and his own absence, and Liri had been unable to hold onto his kingdom.
There was no place for them here anymore, they could not hold the territory with her pair of loyal followers. They could not stop loners from entering now and thus, were no longer a pack. Some part of her just wanted to leave this place and put it behind her, another was heartbroken for Rosings had become home.
It was the last place she had seen Sam, where he would go to seek her if he ever returned and Liri would not be here waiting for him. The den they had shared seemed cold, empty even if it was exactly the same as before and even if the heat of summer filled it.
Liri had come here bruised and battered but would leave hardened, strengthened by all she had done here. Liri had learned, loved, led.
Now she would leave.
