Most wolves left quietly in the night and while normally Charon would appreciate being told rather than sneaking off without a word, he could've spent this time with Ame. She could've come to the den instead, found him there, rather than call him away from his family. What if something'd happened while he was gone?

"Fine, go," he said, resisting the urge to chase her out himself for deserting the pack in such an important time so close after the pups' birth. "Good luck." The words were cold and meaningless, and he stared her down, waiting for her to leave his territory and his pack, one which she was no longer a part of.
