Yesterday's meeting still loomed on her heart like the threat of a rabid beast, and even with the call of a promising hunt, Nanook found the shadows hard to shake. Were they really safe with a mountain between them? Was Desna wise to rally the whole pack together? Shouldn't someone be watching the borders still?
She wanted to trust her sister's judgments, and tried to push her reservations from her mind. Still, she didn't know if she could get her focus fully into the hunt, and knew her double mindedness would make her more of a liability than a help. So at the request for someone to stay behind, Nanook bit with her offer. "I can stay back with the kids." Though the task would demand her full attention, it would also allow her to play sentinel, and keep one ear propped for any disturbances coming from the forest behind them.
