Despite a sudden desire to shovel her trust on him - for she had a very good feeling about this one - she felt a war inside. A vying to loosen her guard and, at the same time, to tighten it. The stranger hadn’t given her reason to mistrust him, but neither was she satisfied to give herself over on the basis of a few choice words.

Nanook remained quiet and allowed her sister to pose the questions, now that she was here. The mercenary focused on the stranger’s nonverbal cues - the turns of his body, the shifts of his face - and stood by, still as a gargoyle guarding its keep.
