The beast's confusion at her words was well hidden behind his expressionless mask. It was a language he had never heard, but he, of course, did not seek a translation. Instead, he was more interested in the fact that she shared his last name. A brief look of surprise flashed across his dark face before it was concealed behind the mask again.
He hadn't noticed the red paw mark on her shoulder upon his first inspection, but when it did catch his attention, his militant gaze lingered there in interest. He too had an abnormal mark on his shoulder, although his was the same shade of purple as his eyes and shaped like a spider. But Midar didn't remember were his mark came from, at least he assumed he didn't remember because he had no recollection of receiving it, and he did not remember it being there as a child.
We share the same last name?he asked, although it was somewhat a rhetorical question; the beast thinking out loud. He searched his damaged memory but found he did not remember her at all. Some things from his past were lost to a head injury, but the memories of his family seemed to be intact, so it was more likely that she was a relative he didn't know than that she was one he didn't remember; if the latter were the case, then she would have surely said something by this point.
It would seem we are related...but how?he added. If she was related to him in anyway, he wanted to know. He would use the info to decide if she was worthy of his respect. Being a member of his family was a good place to start, as the prospect of her being related to him sparked a sense of protectiveness.

Shaking hands with the dark parts of my thoughts
