A golden place, she told him; a golden place where something precious might be found. Pharaoh, she believed, though she did not say it. Whether he met her words with skepticism or belief, Melody departed almost at once.

Several days of wandering finally came to fruition when she found the valley. The Hemet went very still for a moment, only staring in mild shock at the place she had half-suspected did not exist at all. But she felt it — she felt it here, that gift she'd sensed. Melody pressed forward after a moment, her heart thudding starkly in her chest.
