something jostles ezra awake. perhaps it was a slap from a restless paw from gideon or one of druid's brood, or a jerk of ezra's own body. it was impossible to tell as he transitioned from that strange murky slumber to whatever description of awake one could apply to a newborn. only a dew days old and he was still blind and deaf and helpless.

awake, for him, was only different from the dreaming world because it is when he felt the pangs of hunger or the moments just before he relieved himself. it is when he becomes a little more aware in the dulled way that he could be aware.

it was simple, this existence, and easily he falls into an unintended routine.

awake, he reactively seeks to nurse, suckling contentedly.
