Tautukpik had witnessed a lot which he did not understand the day that aapa went away. In the wake of it all he comforted Akmaaksi as she became angry, and Nutuyikruk when she cried, and he watched over the both of them with the hope it was all a dream.
A day passed without any visit from aapa, and then another; waking next to the sound of rain and seeing his sisters were warm and asleep with aaka, Tautukpik stared out of the ulaq feeling many things which he had no words for.
Then there came a voice—weaving between the pattering of the raindrops, low and familiar; he startled at it, and shivered a moment. Thinking it was aapa, Tautukpik slid from the ulaq.
Uyagakagun...
The rain was light, but the wind that accompanied it blustered against him, making the trees dance. Tautukpik went a little further and found a sheltered spot upon which to settle, expecting his father to arrive at any moment.
