Time was running out. This morning, she had been fixing up the den, putting fresh bedding down, tidying it, and making sure everything was in its place for when the babes came.

Moving around, however, had grown harder. It was all too familiar, but, different. With her first litter, even though she had carried four, they weren’t large pup. But this time around, she was so large, she felt self conscious about herself. Then there was the cramping, and the shifting of not-so-little bodies within her. And we can’t forget the surging hormones.

She felt like a hot mess. So much, that she decided to stop, and lay down in the back of the den, trying to gather her scattered mind. She panted, tired from her bout of work.
