She couldn't take it back, now. It was settled. Still, Lily felt more maternal than ever as she moved toward the girl, smiling. All right, she said amiably. We can go there now and rest, and then find the island in the morning. Is that fine with you?

Her head canted slightly in query, eyes sparkling. Should Fern be amenable to this plan, she would turn and lead the young wolfdog through the woods, headed for home.
