For the first few nights following Reyes' sudden death, Sorana had accepted her mother's company at night. It didn't make sleep come any easier, but having someone there was infinitely better than being alone. Yet the sight of her mother's figure filling out with the telltalte signs of pregnancy eventually became too much for Sora to handle. Jealousy and loathing and immense pain began to fray at the edges of her shattered self.

@Teya would be happy in a short while and forget all about this. Sorana felt like she would never be happy again.

The next night, she did not accept her mother's comfort or even make her way to the rendezvous. Instead, she kept well away from the pack, wandering until her paws met the lake's edge. She paused there for a time, battling with fear and doubt and knowledge of what had happened to Shenanigans (who was now missing, along with Chickadee, but Sorana could not muster the energy to even think about that), but then she stepped out onto the ice. The pain was worse than any fear, she knew.

She walked until she was on the island where she had been born, and then walked until she was slipping down into the den her mother used to occupy. There, Sorana curled into a tight ball, and when the pain she felt inside herself became too much for her to bear, she dug her teeth into her arms until scarlet mixed with the russet red she had inherited from her father.

Come morning, there would be several wounds upon all four of her legs to mark Sorana turning her internal agony to external pain, which was easier to process and easier to cope with. She would not emerge from that den for several days, though anyone would be able to follow her tracks and know where she had gone. By the time she did, her legs would be littered with bite marks and bald patches from where worrying teeth had torn out the fur.
