Despite her drop to the ground, the wolf keeps coming. She lowers her head back and watches, uncertain what’s about to happen but her heart beats heavily out of her chest and she tries to shrink back as much as she can the closer he gets. The snapping of his teeth leave her frozen and she glares up at him, watching until he finally puts distance between them once more. Olive gaze holds his face for a moment, until he steps back and turns away, but Currituck does not linger. Fuck the lake. Fuck the chickens. Fuck this dude.
 
She quickly picks herself up on scrambling legs and darts away.
