It was getting increasingly more difficult to monitor her daughters of late. With the opening of their beautiful puppy-blue eyes, the unfurling of their stout little limbs, and all the curiosity inherent to those new to the world, Ibis knew it was unfair of her to keep them holed up in the den for such long stretches of time.
She had taken note of some bedsores on @Arielle the other day, and a crusting of dirt against @Lilitu's underside where she'd wet herself in a cramped corner. She'd done her best to clean them both up, but while tending to one the other would roam free, and vice-versa. All that Ibis wanted of her daughters was their safety and happiness - and she knew the den would provide both of those things if she just found a way.
She extracted herself from the den for a brief break, while both girls were napping soundly deep within. She would not go far. Ibis felt more tangible guilt as she stood in the tangle of trees, the summer wind blustering against her cheeks and her slimming sides. She looked around briefly for @Akavir or @Viinturuth, and was startled upon finding a trail of crushed grass that held @Hime's musk more prominently than both the men. She squatted, relieved herself upon that patch, and then rebounded towards the den mouth again.
If Hime knew of the den, it was ultimately not as safe as Ibis hoped it to be. She had worked hard to find this space and dig deep among the roots, hopeful that they would be left in peace for a while, and yet Ibis could not stop the rising anxiety in her breast. It would soon be time to move them elsewhere, she reasoned. But where? What part of the Vale was truly safe from all the chaos that woman brought with her?
